Materials for seals and rubber sheeting

Eight elastomer families, 22 grades: our materials range from 25 to 85 Shore A and, depending on the compound, cover temperatures from −55 to +275 °C. Available as rolls, sheets, film, cut parts and moulded parts, from 0.3 to 60 mm thick and up to 1,500 mm wide, depending on the version. If none of our grades meets your requirements, we adjust the formulation.

Which family for which job

The family determines which media and which temperatures a material can handle at all. How hard, how cold-flexible and how thick it is comes down to the grade. Each family holds between one and ten of them.

Applications
1

Silicone (VMQ)

Two grades, 35 to 65 Shore A, −45 to +220 °C. Roll and sheet, available in colour. Both FDA compliant, including for repeated food contact.

2

EPDM

Ten grades, 25 to 75 Shore A, −55 to +150 °C. For water, steam and weathering. Two FDA compliant, two to DIN EN 681, polymer content 100 % EPDM.

3

NBR

Three grades, 55 to 70 Shore A, −40 to +125 °C. Oil resistant. One ozone resistant, one for transformers, polymer content 100 % NBR.

4

FKM

Three grades, 60 to 75 Shore A, −20 to +275 °C, up to 20 mm. For aggressive media and heat. One FDA compliant, fluorine content 66 %. Fluorinated, and therefore not PFAS-free.

5

HNBR

One grade, 65 to 85 Shore A, −20 to +150 °C. Oil resistant like NBR, with more headroom on temperature and ageing. Minimum order 500 kg.

6

Butyl (IIR)

One grade, 50 to 60 Shore A, −30 to +80 °C. Very low gas permeability, which is why it goes where gas must not migrate through the seal.

7

Natural rubber (NR)

One grade, 60 to 70 Shore A, −40 to +70 °C, white, FDA compliant. High elasticity and very good abrasion resistance.

8

Chloroprene (CR)

One grade, 50 to 60 Shore A, −40 to +70 °C. Bonds to steel, which is why it is used in laminated bridge bearings. Resistant to weathering and salt water outdoors.

Certifications behind your material choice

Six of our grades carry FDA compliance for food contact, and two meet DIN EN 681 for pipe seals. 19 of the 22 grades are free from per- and polyfluorinated substances, and data sheets are available for 21. Whatever else your market requires, we clarify before your first order.

Cut and die-cut parts

Strips, die-cut and water-jet cut parts to your drawing or to sample.

Moulded part

Formed in a tool, in EPDM, NBR, FKM and butyl. Where cutting from sheet would leave too many offcuts.

Which values should the material meet?

Tell us the medium, the temperature and where the part sits. That gives us the family, and the family gives us the formulation.
